Complete characterization of optical pulses using a chirped fiber Bragg grating
نویسندگان
چکیده
A simple method for complete characterization of periodic optical pulses based on time domain interferometry is demonstrated. The method does not require the use of an interferometer. A chirped fiber Bragg grating is used for stretching the pulses to be characterized. The interference between the stretched overlapped pulses is recorded by a photodiode and a sampling oscilloscope. The phase response of the chirped fiber Bragg grating is measured by an all-fiber Michelson interferometer. A fast-Fourier-transform method is used for processing of interference patterns in both the time and spectral domain. 2005 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved. PACS: 42.65.Re; 42.87.Bg; 42.30.Rx

Optical pulse compression based on nonlinear silicon waveguides and chirped Bragg gratings
Due to the growing demand for higher bandwidth, employing optical devices instead of electronic devices in data transmission systems has attracted much attention in recent years. Optical switches, modulators and wavelength converters are a few examples of the required optical devices. CMOS compatible fabrication of these devices, leads to much more growing of this technology. Optical pulse comp...
متن کاملAll-fiber tunable optical delay line.
We present a tunable optical delay line based on the use of a single chirped fiber Bragg grating written into a standard single mode optical fiber. In the proposed scheme, the delay is induced through the Bragg grating differential group delay curve. This is achieved by launching orthogonally polarized optical pulses in both directions into the Bragg grating and by controlling its local birefri...
متن کاملHigh-energy, kHz-repetition-rate, ps cryogenic Yb:YAG chirped-pulse amplifier.
We demonstrate amplification of picosecond laser pulses to 40?mJ at a 2?kHz pulse repetition frequency (PRF) from a two-stage cryogenic chirped-pulse Yb:YAG amplifier, composed of a regenerative amplifier (RGA) and a two-pass booster amplifier. The RGA produces 8.2mJ of energy at 2kHz PRF and 13.2mJ at 1kHz PRF with excellent energy stability (approximately 0.3% rms) and beam quality (M(2)<1.1)...
متن کاملWavelength-tunable, passively mode-locked fiber laser based on graphene and chirped fiber Bragg grating.
We demonstrate a wavelength-tunable, passively mode-locked erbium-doped fiber laser based on graphene and chirped fiber Bragg grating. The saturable absorber used to enable passive mode-locking in the fiber laser is a section of microfiber covered by graphene film, which allows light-graphene interaction via the evanescent field of the microfiber. The wavelength of the laser can be continuously...
متن کاملChirped in-fiber Bragg gratings for compensation
It is well known that chirped (aperiodic) refractiveindex Bragg gratings can be used for compensating for the dispersion of optical fiber waveguides.' When used in reflection mode (in contrast to transmission mode), such Bragg gratings exhibit large dispersion. As well, the sign of the dispersion in reflection mode is easily controlled. Together these two characteristics suggest the use of chir...
